Initial accounts from most major news sources reported that WikiLeaks had released over 250,000 documents. Some or all of these were U.S. diplomatic cables. However, near year end, National Public Radio (NPR) issued a correction:
Although the [WikiLeaks] website has vowed to publish "251,287 leaked United States embassy cables," as of 28 December 28 2010, only 1,942 of the cables have been released.
A rather hefty log of 249,000 documents remain undisclosed. Where are they? Who has possession of them?








I found a bit more about this topic. but still no numeric answer.
It seems that there may be a difference between documents released to the newspapers versus those disclosed to the public i.e. published. But I'm not even certain I understand that correctly.
